Operation commander puts officers on the clock

Operation Commander Lieutenant Colonel promise Midrand residents that the police will respond to crime complaints on time - at most less than 15 minutes of logging a call.

Midrand Police Station Operation Commander Lieutenant Colonel Nhlanhla Sibisi has vowed that his officers would attend crime scenes on time.

Sibisi said this during a Sector 3 Crime Forum meeting held at the station on May 9.
He said gone were the days when complainants would have to wait hours before getting assistance.

“We have three forms of complaints that are classified into three categories. Alpha complaints are when a crime is in progress, Bravo already occurred and Charlie that has occurred some time back,” added Sibisi.
And as a standard rule, he said, police should attend to an Alpha complaint within 15 minutes of receiving the call.

Responding to a question about why the five sectors in Midrand only have one police vehicle to patrol the area, Sibisi said nothing was stopping him from rerouting a vehicle in another sector to the scene of an Alpha complaint.
“We can’t be static if a crime is happening in one of our sectors and blame resources.”

Sibisi concluded the Midrand community needed to be more proactive regarding crime in the area.
“Having just cars patrolling without intelligence and strategic methods of nabbing criminals, then yes, those patrols are not going to yield any positive results.”
