Love was in the air at Glen Austin High School as learners celebrated Valentine’s Day in style with a love market on February 17.
The learners had stalls at the school premises and sold various items from cupcakes, sweets, boerewors rolls to cold drinks. The learners were excited about handling over-the-counter sales and selling products to their peers and teachers.
Some teachers and leaners could be seen buying from one stall to the other with the intention of supporting stall owners.
Head prefect for 2023 at the school, Grade 12 learner, Busisiwe Phoswa (17) said they did not have enough time to celebrate the day well on the actual Valentine’s Day. “It was during the week so we decided that we will have the celebrations on a Friday so that everybody can enjoy the day. We also had a modelling show where some learners entered for Mr and Miss Valentine’s and also Plus-size Valentine’s Day models,” said Busisiwe.
Lesego Kgosiemang and Chantell Lukhele won the first prize in the pageant, Vuyo Mfengwana and Kimberly Kurivemwe came second while third-place belonged to Khethiwe Smith and Owami Mentjies.
In the plus-size modelling competition, Lilo Mbodla won while Patience Radebe came second.
Busisiwe described the event as entertaining and successful and believes all the learners had a great day to enjoy and share love among their peers.
