Following their 100% pass rate, Midland Primary, and High School bestowed their eight learners with monetary cheques.
The former learners, who are now the school’s alumni, came with their parents and guardians to a glittering award ceremony on February 3. This was the first time the school held such a ceremony to thank its learners.
School principal Sharira Padayachy said the former learners have done the school proud and hopes the money will give them a start toward furthering their education. “As the school, we are proud of you [learners] because some are going to higher institutions of learning to seek a better future for yourselves. Just a reminder, remember that wherever you go, you represent the school. As educators, we are happy and hope that you will do well for yourselves,” said Padayachy.
The recipients were: Mona Mabiletsa, Refentse Segone, Collen Mtshali, Nondumiso Mlala, Ncobile Nkosi, Nkateko Manganye and Iilitha Mvunelo.
For one distinction, the learners received R1 000 each and multiplied by an additional R500 for each distinction thereafter to the tune of R1500.
Senior phase head of the department at Midland Primary and High School Nokuthula Mbedzi thanked the parents who were there. “I am proud of you guys, and to the parents, thank you so much for everything that you have done for your kids. As much we can say we have done our part as teachers, but most of the support you gave them has brought them where we are today.”
Parent’s representative, Amyas Mvunelo said, “If it was not for the parents’ and teachers’ pushing, then these learners would not be here today with distinctions. On behalf of the parents, we would like to thank the teachers and learners for working hard throughout the year.”
