City Power deployed all of its available personnel to battle stage 6 load shedding across the City.

City Power deployed all available personnel to battle the extended outages and faults of stage 6 load shedding across the City.

City Power says that it has deployed all of its available personnel to battle stage 6 load shedding across the City of Johannesburg.

Stage 6 load shedding was implemented on December 7, totalling up to 12-hour blackouts a day.

According to environment and infrastructure services MMC Michael Sun, personnel, which include team leaders and management staff, will help to ensure the outages and faults are resolved in a timely manner.

“Johannesburg’s ageing network is simply not designed to be powered up and down, and to withstand the impacts of rush current several times a day without running the risk of severe technical faults.”

Sun added that the controlled blackout also unfortunately provide a schedule for cable thieves to operate without running the risk of electrocution.

“To every single Joburger, I feel your pain. But we need to pull together now and play our part by using electricity sparingly.”

“Do not overload the system and run the risk of surges in your home and business when your power comes back by immediately activating all your appliances. If you see something suspicious in your area report it immediately to City Power or the police,” Sun said.
