The Society for Animals in Distress (Said) opened the Barn Charity shop with customers flocking in and out of the premises.

The shop sells second-hand items ranging from clothes, books, furniture, kitchen items and electrical items.

Young and old graced the opening while various stalls, selling books and animals items were set up by the society.
Said’s admin and donor manager said they were pleased with the attendance.

“I would say we had about 50 people attending as it was a steady stream. A huge thank you to all those supported the society on the opening of the shop on Saturday [November 26]. We would love to encourage more customers to come through as we are open Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:00,” said Tagg.

She said as an NPO the shop was going to assist the organisation to be able to provide more help to animals in the less fortunate areas that they are presently assisting. Tembisa, Olievenhoutbosch, Diepsloot and Ivory Park are some of the townships benefiting from Said.

“The financial support of the Society from all who attended is fantastic. Of course, we would have loved more people to support us, but they are shopping for the big bargains on Black Friday weekend.”

She said the idea of having a charity shop has been in the pipeline for a while. It was then decided that this year (2022) would be the right time to open the shop.
