Midlands learners de-stress with a colour-festival event ahead of exams

Cyan Fysekis, a Grade 8 learner at MPHS believes having the colour festivities before the exams was one of the most wonderful experiences for her and her peers.

Teachers and learners of Midland Primary and High School (MPHS) took a short break from academic work and some had to run for cover during the school’s colour-festival event.

Learners threw coloured powder at their peers and teachers, while some teachers had to run for cover on October 28 at the school premises in Crowthorne AH. It was a fun-filled day aimed at helping learners ease off the stress before the start of the final-year examinations.

School principal Sharira Padayachy said in addition, learners were allowed to showcase their talents. Some sang while others danced or rapped in freestyle.

“Our learners and educators have spent all year hard at work and more so this term. The final examinations are always stressful and as a school we wanted our learners to have a day where they could have fun in a safe environment before the gruelling examinations period begins,” said Padayachy.

Demiya Naidoo, Tiana Rambhajan and Arshaan Dookie-Ramlal share a big smile after being splashed with coloured powder.

She said the school understood and acknowledged that learners benefitted the most from a balanced lifestyle and part of their ethos was to develop learners holistically. “Academics remain our focus at MPHS, however, by integrating fun activities into our year plan, we ensure that our learners develop in the most exceptional way possible.”

Padayachy wished all learners well for their exams and thanked the teachers for their hard work throughout the year.

A Grade 8 learner Cyan Fysekis said, “My experience was amazing. There were so many fun activities that I really enjoyed. I appreciate the school for having these festivities just before the exams. My friends and I truly enjoyed the day and it was one of the most wonderful experiences.”
