Midland Primary and High School prefects urge peers to use new lab wisely

Head boy and head girl from Midland Primary and High School believe the schools put their academic work first.

As a teenager, being exposed to a computer lab that is connected to the internet might often leave you hooked on various social media sites rather than doing your school work.

To avoid this pitfall, Midland Primary and High School (MPHS) head boy and head girl have urged their peers to use the school’s newly built lab to empower themselves for the future.

Head boy and Grade 11 learner Subir Shah Mathapursad (16) said as the world moved into a more technological era, he believed the school education system needed to advance simultaneously.

“This advancement will aid in understanding topics in various subjects that were previously considered challenging and provide an overall better learning experience. As a long-term learner here, I believe MPHS has excelled in the advancement from old teaching methods to more efficient and technological ones,” said Subir.

He said the new information centre was a perfect example of how the school prioritised learners’ academic well-being.

Head girl Makanaka Garise (16), also in Grade 11, said technology had become a fundamental part of the world, and the school had made it their priority to ensure that all their learners have access to it.

“This will allow us [learners] to branch into technological-based careers. Having an additional Computer Applications Technology lab will help a lot when it comes to giving learners the opportunity to do more research for their projects and assignments while equipping themselves with new knowledge,” concluded Makanaka.

Previously, the school had only one lab which was used by Grade 10 to 12 learners but Grade R learners to Grade 9 will now have access to the technology.
