A two-horse race intensifies in the MLFA as season draws to an end

Risannah FC coach Noko R Maupye believes the team to win the much-awaited top-of-the-summit clash will likely run away with the title.

Log-leaders Indlovu FC and second-place Risannah FC will lock-horns in a game of their lives as they both strive to clinch the league title.

With three games to go before the Midrand Local Football Association league comes to an end, Indlovu lead Risannah by two points at the top of the log standings.

Indlovu are on 58 points while Risannah is on 56 and it is now a two-horse race as third-placed Sentimental IKD FC trail by 17 and 19 points respectively.

Indlovu coach Thato Legodi described the second half of the 2021/2022 campaign as difficult but he was happy with the progress they have made so far and urged his boys to hold on.

“I think my boys are trying their utmost best to get positive results each game we play. However, what I told them was that the Saturday game [July 9], they must just treat it like another game in the league. Psychologically, they [players] look ready because I believe this game is more physiological than any other thing,” said Legodi.

In their first encounter, Indlovu beat Risannah 2–0 to walk away with three points.

However, for coach Noko R Maupye of Risannah, this was not a revenge game but one they just needed to do their utmost best to win.

“I think it is going to be a difficult game but we are ready for it. This game has so much significance in the league because anyone who wins it – with three games to spare – is most likely to clinch the title. I think my players need to play as a collective, be calm throughout the game and apply the game plan and stick to tactics,” said Maupye.
Kick off for the much-anticipated game is at 15:00 and will be played on July 9 at Rabie Ridge Stadium.

Both teams won their last two games to add to their points tally.
