Vorna Valley residents re-elect chair for the 8th time in an AGM meeting

Vorna Valley Residents Association has agreed at the AGM meeting to revise the association's constitution as a matter of urgency.

The Vorna Valley Residents Association (VVRA) have re-elected Marianne Nel as the chairperson of the association for the record 8th time at the AGM meeting.

The meeting was held in Vorna Valley’s Swiss Country Club on June 24 at 19:00 to about 20:10.

Among other top positions filled were the treasurer spot which was occupied by Carol Thornton for the second term since last year following Hein de Kock’s resignation while Bronwyn Mayhew got the nod for the secretary vacant to topple Paul Veltman.

Before the start of the election of the new committee could commence, Veltman who was vying for the chairperson throne, withdrew his nomination and eventually Nel won by unanimous decision.

In her speech, she said the area had many challenges that needed to be given their immediate attention following the easing down of Covid-19 regulations which has left a trail of mass distraction.

“I have always been here to work for the community and I will continue to do so, because I think the residents are happy that I am back in the position again and I am happy to be back because I like to support the community and work to serving the community.”
She has also been roped into the Sector 2 Crime Forum as the public relations officer.

Nel said sewerage blockages, burst water pipes, potholes and power failures due to lack of proper infrastructure were a concern and one of their priorities.

Even though they are proud of how far they have come, she said that problems still exist when doing work for the community.

“We ask that businesses and residents contribute to our association even if it is as little as R20 or so, so that we can add more cameras to the existing poles and help with the monthly running costs as we are in dire need.”

She concluded that the LPR cameras proved a huge success in fighting crime although criminals always came with new methods. such as changing number plates.
