Three alleged robbers may face more charges after being arrested by Ivory Park police

The Ivory Park station commander said the trio's profiles and backgrounds will be thoroughly checked, and additional charges are possible if a link is established.

Ivory Park police arrested three men aged 22, 32, and 33 for robbery on June 13, and they believe that the suspects may be involved in other similar crimes.

The three suspects were arrested by the crime prevention team after they were pointed out by one of their victims they allegedly robbed in Allandale hours before.

“The three, who are all from Rabie Ridge, were driving in a white Volkswagen sedan,” said Captain Ben Matimulane, the spokesperson of the Ivory Park police.

“The three allegedly robbed the ladies who were waiting for an e-hailing cab to take them to one of the so-called ‘lifestyles’ in the area. Apparently, the robbers also went to the same place after the commission of the robbery and that was where one of the victims saw them. A toy gun was found in the vehicle.”
Ivory Park Station Commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo said he had instructed his team to leave no stone unturned after many incidents of robberies committed by men driving in a white sedan had been reported.

“The men’s profiles and backgrounds will be properly checked and this does not rule out the possibility of additional charges should a link be established,” said Ngcobo.

Any person who may have been robbed by people whose description and the modus operandi match the suspects, is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Edmond Lebopo of the Ivory Park police detectives.

The three are expected to appear in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to face charges of armed robbery.

Details: Detective Sergeant Edmond Lebopo 011 990 9600.
