Midrand SPCA inspectors get props from the community

The SPCA implores the public to ensure that their property is secured or fenced off and that their gates are not left open so their pets are able to roam the streets.

Two Midrand SPCA inspectors were commended by the organisation and community for their passion and compassion toward the voiceless animals they vow to protect.
The SPCA recently received a call about an ‘injured’ dog running around in Midrand. Inspectors Theo Mokgatle and Jerry Seemise responded to the call.

The dog was spotted by them but ran away in fear. Mokgatle remained at the scene while Seemise left to attend to another call.

While on his way, Seemise saw the dog again but much further away from the first location. With his call complete, Seemise headed back to assist Mokgatle, this time with the SPCA’s trusted dog trap in tow.

The two inspectors sat and waited for several hours but the dog was nowhere to be seen. With heavy hearts, they packed up for the day, and on his way home, Seemise decided to make another drive-by and received a call from a woman who said that she had seen the dog.

“Seemise spotted the dog and our very own dog whisperer gently approached the dog and scooped him up into his arms,” said the SPCA in a statement.

Fortunately, the dog was not injured. With the dog safely in his care, Seemise called his general manager Pam Pretorius to inform her of the situation and his closing words were ‘now I can sleep tonight.’

“His words truly struck a chord, because very often we tend to forget that when an animal is left behind in a situation beyond our control, our inspectors worry about their well-being and whether they will be injured or suffer before we can get them to safety,” said the SPCA.

Community members took to social media to thank the inspectors. “These inspectors are amazing,” said Audrey Julyan. ”We sleep well at night knowing you at the SPCA are taking care of all animals without loving homes.”

Alison Jones, another community member said, “Such wonderful caring people Jerry and Theo, well done in rescuing this scared doggy. Praying for donations to assist with costs in all these rescues.”
