Midrand High fails to maintain a two-goal lead as Curro Sagewood came from behind to draw level

Further chances fell for both teams in the dying stages of the match but none managed to steal the game.

Shandre Campbell was in inspired form as Curro Sagewood came from behind to draw 2–2 at home against an overconfident Midrand High School on May 18 in an U17 School league soccer match.

Midrand High shot-stopper Tshepo Mojapelo produced two outstanding saves to deny Curro from taking an early lead shortly before Midrand High’s Olwethu Gumede’s goal was disallowed for an offside.

Midrand High went ahead on 18 minutes through Kamogelo Mazibuko after a cut back pass from Olwethu to set him up.

Before halftime, the nail-biting game for the fans became even more exciting when a sliding Shandu Nkosana of Curro scored an own-goal after trying to intercept a cross from the wing.

After the break, Curro came back strongly and Shandre, who was in predator mode, pulled one back for the hosts with a long range strike that left both Tshepo and the crowd astonished.

Midrand High’s defence could not contain Shandre as he broke through the midfield and fired another rocket from a similar angle. This time, however, Tshepo was on his toes and made an incredible save to deny him.

Curro equalised after 50 minutes courtesy of a free kick, and further chances fell to both teams in the dying stages of the match but no one managed to steal the game.
