A security officer was allegedly killed by merciless protesters following a strike at a dairy company in Clayville.
According to Captain Bernard Matimulane, spokesperson and Ekhuruleni District Zone 1 standby officer, the 56-year-old man was beaten to death, allegedly by striking employees early on February 17.
“Three other security officers have been beaten and one has been hospitalised,” he stated.
“The four security officers came across the striking workers belonging to Fawu [Food and Allied Workers Union] and Giwusa [General Industries Workers Union of SA] in Olifantsfontein as they were travelling in a bus, en route to hand over a memorandum in Boksburg,” said Matimulane.
Matimulane said passengers in the buses allegedly pelted the deceased and his crew members with stones. “He [the victim] was, once they had disembarked, hit with an iron bar.”
Local police have already arrested two suspects, a 33-year-old and 47-year-old, who fled into a nearby building. “All experts are being summoned to the scene and the police believe that more arrests may take place owing to the amount of evidence gathered at the scene,” concluded Mabulane.
