2 arrested and two on the run

GLEN AUSTIN – Two suspects have been arrested and another two are on the run following a robbery.

Police arrested two suspects while two others went on the run following a business robbery at a store in Glen Austin on February 4.

According to the Midrand Police Station’s spokesperson Constable Eliot Mabulane, a complainant alleged that while on duty around 23:15, four people – three men and a woman – came in, ordered alcohol and paid.

Soon after, one of the three male suspects took out a gun and pointed it at the cashier. “The armed suspect then ordered the cashier to give the female suspect money that was in her till. The female suspect agreed, telling the cashier to hand over the money cash,” said Mabulane.

“While stalling, acting reluctant to do so, the second male suspect pulled out his firearm, pointed [it at] the employee and told her to hurry up as they were there to rob them.”

Mabulane said the victim then took out the cash from the till and gave it to the female suspect, as she was ordered to. The suspects then quickly exited the store and jumped into a white Toyota Etios Cross getaway vehicle that had no registration number.

“The cashier phoned the owner who was in the back office, the owner chased the suspects with his vehicle and called the police.

“When police arrived, they also gave chase. The suspects abandoned their vehicle and ran on foot into the bushes.”
Police managed to arrest the female and male suspect but the two others escaped.

A case of armed robbery has been opened and the arrested suspects will be making their first appearance in court to answer to all charges.
