For 13 years, World Read Aloud Day has served as a reminder that sharing stories is important by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read aloud.
On February 2, Christ Church Preparatory School and College joined the rest of the world in enjoying the magical world of reading.
Dawn Schmitz, the school marketing manager said, “This year marks the thirteenth year of the World Read Aloud Day initiative, and we joined millions around the world in celebrating the power of reading aloud.”
School learners and staff moved from classroom to classroom to read to other school learners. “Learners also enjoyed a bit of quiet time reading their own novels,” Schmitz added.
Some Grade 3s decided that they would read to the Grade 11s. Under the watchful eye of the senior learners, the Grade 3 readers found their way to the various classes and shared their personal favourite stories with the older classes.
World Read Aloud Day is a sustained initiative to promote a culture of reading aloud with children amongst families, parents, caregivers, educators, and society. “Well done to all the learners involved in this initiative,” Schmitz concluded.
