Police warn residents about common robberies

HALFWAY HOUSE – The Midrand police said that most of the people who fell victim to these common robberies were joggers in the morning and evening.

The Midrand Police Station warns residents of the rise in common robberies in the Noordwyk area.

The Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane, said that the Station Commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso was appealing to community members to be vigilant around the early hours of the morning and in the evenings.

“This is due to the high cases of robberies. These robberies affect people who are jogging, for fitness purposes during the morning and late in the evening.

“The syndicates are targeting joggers’ cellphones and any valuable items which they might have on during their time of exercising.”

Mabulane said that the affected areas were 14th Road and Lever Road including Olifantsfontein Road.

“The social crime prevention and communication offices are on a campaign to address these issues and distribute safety tips pamphlets.

“We plead with Midrand community members that during these campaigns, they should accept and receive these pamphlets as they play a very vital role in helping maintain one’s safety and security.”

Mabulane said that the Midrand Police Station task team was on board to arrest these suspects.

“The station commander further urges community members to start jogging in groups as this might minimise the attacks and targets on individuals.”
