Midrand Cricket Club promotional side still undefeated this year

CLAYVILLE — It was not the best day in the office for the Midrand batting unit as four wickets fell before claiming victory with 6 wickets in hand.

The Easterns Promotional League resumed on January 16 with Midrand Cricket Club hosting visitors Bakerton Cricket Club at Ollie’s ground in Clayville.
As always, Midrand’s bowling unit was at its best, bowling first and restricting the visiting team to a low score of 114 all out.

The opening seam bowling attack of Thando Mrawu and Prashant Singh set the tone for the rest of the bowling unit as they restricted the batsmen in the batting power play.

This gave room for the man of the match, Abhinav Goel to sweep through the Bakerton batting lineup with impressive bowling figures of 5/3 in his eight overs.

He was well supported by Niven Govender whose 10 overs went for 18 runs, taking two wickets in a great support role as Bakerton folded under pressure.
However. it was not the best day in the office for the Midrand batting unit as four wickets fell before claiming victory with six wickets in hand.
Enkosi Nonyukela batted at four, top-scoring with 34 off 37 balls and was well supported by captain Molope Molope who scored 31 off 63. Midrand remains on top of the Promotion log standings as they are yet to taste defeat.

Meanwhile, the club’s player and coach George Mukoki said their U17 players were afforded the opportunity to do a level 1 umpiring course with Eastern Cricket Union.

“They [U17s] were led by Midrand junior’s coach and CSA certified umpire Ryan Munyama as they got an opportunity to further their cricket skills as umpires,” Mukoki said.
