Keep your fitness goals attainable

HALFWAY HOUSE – Sweat Fields' coach Bryan Kandemiri-Bhebhe shared some of his tips to help you stick to your new year fitness goals.

Many people are eager to start the year off on the right foot and stick to a fitness routine.

The Midrand Reporter had a chat with coach Brian Kandemiri-Bhebhe from Sweat Fields fitness club about tips to help you achieve your fitness goals this year.

He said that while hopping on the New Year’s resolution fitness bandwagon may seem cliché, you should not worry. To attain your fitness goals this year you can get a workout buddy or join a fitness club. “You may know someone in your life who resolved to start exercising in the New Year.

“Begin your fitness journey with them. It will increase your chances for success and you’ll have more fun. For this to work, you have to find an exercise that both of you enjoy.”
He added that you should also focus on changing your behaviour as we all have bad habits. “However, trying to change more than one bad behaviour at a time can be a recipe for failure. Decide which goal is your priority. Focusing on one goal at a time can improve your chance of success.

“Be realistic when setting your fitness goals, one of the biggest problems with New Year’s resolutions is they can be extremely impractical. Setting realistic goals is important because knowing you can attain your goal helps keep up your motivation.”
Kandemiri Bhebhe suggested that a realistic goal was a goal you know you can achieve, even if it might take a lot of work or time to accomplish.

He added that you should appreciate and be kind to yourself. “Recovery and a healthy mindset are as important as the sweat sessions.

“Make sure to take that seriously this year. Practising self-love often takes hard work, and no day will be 100% perfect. It’s all about making a conscious decision to look in the mirror and point out the parts of yourself that are incredible.”

Kandemiri- Bhebhe concluded that if you can afford a personal trainer, try getting one, and lastly, just move your body.
