Learners delivered performances ranging from African dance, Afro-jazz, hip-hop, singing, and instrumental performances on the night.

The school’s head of art, Lebona Sello, said the event was all about trying to showcase the children’s talent.

He added that because they could not have the event last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, they decided they would incorporate new elements to this year’s event to uplift the crowd instead of having it just be an entertainment event. “That way, we can get people involved and have them enjoy it more, especially because people have been locking themselves indoors for so many months.”

Sello said that learners from grades 1 to 11 all took part, as the aim was also to show parents that even though a lot of activities have been cancelled, learners can still do something productive and stimulating besides academics.

“The highlight was that we took some of the musicals and pieces for the little kids to sing. They did not just do well but it gave them a different dynamic to do at school.”

Parent, Zanele Msutwana said she enjoyed every part of the event. “I must say the emotional parts got to me because I was crying, however, everything was well done – the singing, marimba, and the performing on the auditorium stairs was spectacular,” she added.

Another parent, Khumbu Mpofu said she was very happy the school was able to allow learners to display their talent. “My daughter is very musical, she was in most of the performances tonight. This allowed her to express her talent and reach her potential,” she said.

“I would love this to happen every year because it makes a difference, families come together and we just enjoy our kids’ talent,” Mpofu concluded.
