The Midrand Reporter took a tour of Nokuphila School, an initiative of The Love Trust, a non-profit organisation based in President Park.

A life-changing vision of founder Reverend Martin Morris, the school provides children from less fortunate backgrounds with good education and social care.

The school is proof that it takes a village to raise a child as the picture-perfect buildings, well-equipped classrooms, smart boards, pristine bathrooms, library books, computers, and buses are all a result of the generous donations from funders and well-wishers.
In a quest to make all learners feel worthy and equal, the school has shower facilities for children who need a warm shower, offers transport, meals during school hours and discounted uniform prices to learners.

Head of the foundation phase department, Mabel Sikhakhane said 90% of school fees were paid by donors and the parents pay a small fee. She added, “We have an early child development teacher training centre which empowers daycare teachers in Tembisa and provides teaching and learning material to them.”

The Love Trust’s director of academics, Silas Pillay said the school had bigger dreams for its learners. “We want to build a high school so that children here continue to get the level of education and holistic care they are now accustomed to at Nokuphila School,” added Pillay.
The school’s biggest supporter, Christ Church Midrand, will again give each child at the school a Christmas present this December.
