Kp King Drip and J. Hoff talk new single, Dreams

MIDRAND – The new single is said to have been inspired by Keanu Perumal explaining to his girlfriend that if she will not support him she wont be able to be in a relationship with him.

Keanu Perumal aka KP King Drip and Joshua Kamanga better known as J. Hoff are riding the amapiano wave with their new single Dreams.

The two hip-hop musicians, Perumal from Sunninghill and Kamanga from Vorna Valley, paired up for Perumal’s song where he steps into the amapiano/afrobeat sound to set the record straight with his girlfriend.

In this project, Perumal said he wanted to further emphasise his unique ability to adapt to any genre which is why his second verse on the song is written in IsiZulu.

He added that the song was about him telling his girlfriend that he loves her a lot, but she needed to understand that he was a musician, and with that came a lot of work.

“I know that I am so into my dream [making music] that I end up depriving you [his girlfriend] of my attention.

“I am trying to get this music to rise to a new level, either you join me on this journey or our relationship is not going to work,” explained Perumal.

Perumal said he never thought he would get into amapiano music, however, Kamanga kept on playing that genre around him until he had no choice but to love the sound.

“He [Kamanga] was listening to amapiano in the car and everywhere, and always said we have to do this sound.

“Eventually, I heard a beat on YouTube, and I decided to just try this sound.”

Kamanga said that Perumal approached him to do this song, and that was how Dreams was born

“In the climate, we live in, we have to take opportunities as they come, there is no way you can be a one genre artist these days, we explored and spoke about how we can join the amapiano/house music scene, and broaden our horizons, and these are the results of that work,” concluded Kamanga.
