Golf day raises funds for Midrand SPCA

The Midrand SPCA held its annual golf day in hopes of raising enough funds to build its own clinic.

The event was hosted by Fury Motor Group, on October 22 at the Kyalami Country Club.

Chairperson for the Midrand SPCA, Brenda Lucas, said the society currently has a small space which means very limited functions can be fulfilled.

Lucas added that by building their own clinic, the Midrand SPCA hopes to assist more people, including those from impoverished communities, with veterinary treatment for their animals. It should also enable them to increase their sterilisations and assist with other outreach programmes.

Sandton-based software company Epic ERP was a diamond sponsor at the event. Epic ERP managing director, Stuart Scanlon, said that the company had been quite fortunate through the pandemic, while a lot of charities and organisations were struggling – and it was important for them to give back. He added that with the company being family orientated and all of them owning animals, they had to help the Midrand SPCA. “Having SPCA dogs is important, we should not go for the designer type of dogs because it is sort of like giving back.

“I think the SPCA is one of South Africa’s oldest charities… The golf was a bonus and, while at it, we can enjoy the beautiful South African outdoors.”

Dr Daneel van Eck, director of strategy for Epic ERP, added that he has several animals which was also why it was wonderful to sponsor the event.

He urged people to consider supporting animal shelters, “It is quite difficult for people because they all want to help people and animals, however, people have more of an ability to help themselves and are less hopefully tortured, which is why all of us need to see what we can do to help animals.”There are many animal societies and I think we should support all of them.”
