NGO donates essentials

BUCCLEUCH – Suzan Harris, a principal parent at The Village Safe Haven, said that the donations have eased their responsibilities since the home was going through a tough time.

Local non-profit organisation, Connect To Feed dropped off much-needed food, household items and baby products at The Village Safe Haven in Buccleuch on October 1.

The organisation had called on locals and businesses to help them gather much-needed items as published in the Midrand Reporter NGO Calls On Residents To Support Local Haven [Week ending September 24].

Connect To Feed founder, Upama Srivastava, said that they had to decide on one orphanage or home to donate to each month, and chose to visit The Village Safe Haven for the month of October.

“We did the drive to collect toiletries, snacks for the children, nappies, baby food, yoghurt, milk, chicken nuggets, fish fingers, fruits, maize meal and rice among other things,” said Srivastava.

She added that they also collected essential items required for the children’s day to day living.

A principal parent at the home, Suzan Harris, said the centre was facing financial struggles and the donations eased their needs for the month.

“We can do so much more and go so much further with the burden alleviated. People can do the same as well or sponsor us financially or even buy electricity vouchers since we are on prepaid.

Harris said they are also in need of summer and winter clothes. “It is almost Christmas and we need clothes and gifts. Interested donors can contact me.”
