Operation Okae Molao sees seven arrested

MIDRAND – All suspects are expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrates Court on different charges.


Seven people were arrested on September 10 following a Midrand Police Station-led Operation Okae Molao.

Police focused on all major entrances and exits on the day, with their major focus being Allandale Road.

Alexandra Police Station’s Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela explained that the operation was a joint effort between the Johannesburg Metro Police Department, the Community Safety MEC’s office, as well as members from different stations and the South African Police Service, Johannesburg District office.

She added that it was a weekly operation, triggered by the national unrest not so long ago. “Tonight [September 10], we would be focusing on the liquor raids, as well as the Disaster Management Act. We are going to ensure compliance.

“We will also make sure each and every Midrand community member is safe by confiscating weapons or illegal substances we come across.”

Midrand police spokesperson Sergeant Thabiso Selowa reported that the seven suspects were arrested for various crimes. She said two females between 20 to 50 years old were arrested for shoplifting and three males between the ages of 21 to 35 were arrested for contravening the Disaster Management Act lockdown regulation after failing to adhere to curfew time.

Furthermore, one 28-year-old male was arrested after police found that they were an illegal immigrant. “Another male, aged 51 years old, was arrested for dealing in liquor without a valid liquor license. All suspects will appear before the Midrand Magistrates’ Court,” she concluded.
