Speaking during its launch at Waterfall Ridge Shopping Centre on August 29, Melambo said, “Our aim through this community initiative is to help Ward 132 small and emerging entrepreneurs to showcase their products to potential buyers. We want to help them have access to the market.

“This will help revive and resuscitate the local economy that has suffered immensely because of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

He said the market would be held twice a month at the centre on Sundays. “We will have different kinds of entertainment that the local community and their families can enjoy when visiting the people’s market,” he said.

The centre’s manager, Mandie Spies, said they had provided free exhibition space to local entrepreneurs. “We’ve partnered with Midrand People’s Market in order to give back to the community. We want to give local entrepreneurs who can’t afford rentals in our shopping centre an opportunity to showcase their products,” Spies said.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe said, “This is a great community initiative. It will help struggling local small businesses get exposure to the market.”
