Christ Church Preparatory School in Noordwyk was abuzz between 6 and 9 April as learners celebrated the joy of reading.
The school hosted a number of events in celebration of Literacy Week, starting with Grade 1 to 4 learners creating pictures of their favourite books and book characters, which were displayed in their classroom windows.
During English lessons, learners wrote their own story, poetry piece or drew a picture which will be bound and placed in the library for all to enjoy.
Members of the Hooked on Books team performed for the preschool and prep school, with learners enthralled by the wonderful stories they were introduced to. All books that were demonstrated are available in the school library.
The school also introduced learners to three South African authors including Refiloe Moahloli who gave a reading of her book How Many Ways Can You Say Goodbye, Vangi Pantazis who discussed the process of writing a book while illustrator Kerry Moolman explained book illustrations, and Niki Daly who did an online reading of his latest book Fly High Thoko.
The week ended with the excitement of learners dressing as their favourite book character.
