Vic Typhoon talks about what it takes to be a jack of all trades

MIDRAND – Gundo Victor Luvhengo said that being surrounded by a musical family encouraged a love of music.

Gundo Victor Luvhengo, known as Vic Typhoon, talked about his upcoming EP and shared his passion for music.

The 28-year-old hip-hop artist has also begun to focus on photography, deejaying and running his businesses.

Born in Soweto and raised in Midrand, Luvhengo, a proud Venda man, said his culture had played a huge role in forming his identity.

He added that being exposed to a vibrant music scene from a very young age and inspired by his musical family was all it took to develop a love of music.

His father also encouraged him to take an interest in piano and bass guitar. “I would grab a chair, sit in front of a piano and start pressing keys,” Luvhengo added.

Although a love for music and the skill to play instruments was embedded in him from a young age, Luvhengo said he only started working on his music career six years ago.

“I wanted to move away from being a hip-hop artist to just being an artist ever since my friend Tumelo Manyoni introduced me to piano.

“I have been able to jump on a few songs and I’ve always loved deejaying, and now I’ve just taken it to the next level with piano.”

He added that it took a lot of focus to manage the various aspects of his career. “I guess with everything you do, you have to make time for it so there is time for the music and time for the business.”

Luvhengo is currently working on a piano mixtape with a number of artists and producers.
