Yenzani Children’s Home appeals for help following a robbery

MIDRAND – Robbers stole a laptop charger, broke two windows and a burglar door, stole school bags and a plasma television at the Yenzani Children's Home.

Yenzani Children’s Home appeals to local businesses and residents of Midrand to assist them with donations following a break-in at their premises on 11 March.

Caregiver at the home, Gladys Leballo said she usually switched the alarm off around 4am before everyone woke up. However, on the day of the robbery, the area had load-shedding from 2am to 4am. It is believed that the robbery took place during this time. Leballo added that on the day of the burglary, she woke up and, upon going downstairs to check on the alarm, she saw the curtain of the dining room hanging down and the steel window frame broken.

She said as soon as she saw the broken window she screamed for Jacob Mphiwe, another caregiver, and then set the alarm off. Leballo added, “I then pressed the panic button to get hold of security. The door to the office where we keep our keys and phone was broken after the suspects tampered with it.

“We could not gain access into the office and pick up the security’s call. We had to force our way into the office by breaking the door down.” Leballo said the intruders took a plasma television and school bags, throwing all the books on the ground outside the house. She said they would are appealing to anyone to help them build their perimeter wall higher and install razor wire on it to secure the property. “We also need school bags.

Two windows have been broken plus a butler door, therefore, we also need help fixing those.” Midrand Police Station spokesperson, Constable Eliot Mabulane confirmed the case adding that the police went there on the same day of the robbery to test for fingerprints that are awaiting identification.
