Midrand police pleased with robbery conviction

MIDRAND – The Midrand Police successfully convicted a suspect who committed robberies on the New Road offramp.

A suspect who had been arrested by Midrand police has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for robbery.

Spokesperson for the Midrand police Constable Thabiso Selowa said the arrested suspect and his accomplice would rob motorists at New Road off-ramp. She added that their modus operandi was to approach motorists who were stationary at the robot, point a gun at them and demand cell phones, watches and rings before escaping into the nearby bushes.

Selowa said the suspect was arrested when a victim pulled out their gun and shot and wounded the man who was later arrested and charged with robbery on 5 August.

The other suspect is still at large.
