ICYMI: Midrand SPCA finally has new transport

GLEN AUSTIN – Midrand SPCA has bought two new vans in their quest to assist the local community's animals.

Midrand SPCA received a special Christmas present in the form of two new vans to assist in their operations.

General manager of the SPCA Pam Pretorius said the state of their old vans had been a nightmare which had hindered their ability to assist the animals in local communities which needed their assistance, and placed an extreme amount of pressure on their investigators and staff who needed to travel to various parts of Midrand.

Pretorius added, “We now have a single cab van which will be used to pick up animals and do inspections. The double cab we have will assist when it comes to rescues and emergencies.

“Since the day I started here, our vans have been giving us problems. Our vans have been completely unreliable and were consistently breaking down all the time. They were costing us a fortune.

“Thanks to the amazing support from the public and local businesses, we put posts out to the general public who gave us donations and were able to raise funds for the vans.”

Pretorius said they had consistently tried to raise money to buy the vans but due to setbacks including the Covid-19 pandemic and 12 robberies that took place at their premises over the past two years, the money went to restructuring their entire security detail. “At least now, they [vans] are incredibly reliable. It will help us with assisting animals in the local area and give our inspectors a safer way to go out to emergencies. We also know that the animals will be safely transported when we collect them.”

She thanked Ford Fury Woodmead for going over and above for the organisation and said the dealership was able to sell the vans at cost price which included canopies and tow bars that would assist them on their inspections.
