Botshabelo happy about donations

BLUE HILLS – Botshabelo celebrated Mandela Day with a number of generous donations from the community.

Botshabelo Babies Home and Preschool received overwhelming support from the community through their 67 squares initiative for Mandela Day.

The organisation and their supporters attempted to fill 67m² of their property with donations such as bags of second-hand items, stationery, groceries and nappies for Mandela Day.

Managing director of Botshabelo, Michelle Hinrichsen said due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they decided to take the initiative online by getting the community to fill 67 squares on their website.

“There are still 67 squares, they are just online. So far the community has rallied behind the call to action of Madiba and generously donated. So far 62 squares have already been filled online and together those squares represent over 200 grocery items, 18 packs of nappies, 100 bags of second-hand items, 128 stationery packs and more.

“We are always blown away by the generosity of our community, companies, individuals and families who have chosen to sacrifice and give to ensure our hands are strong to care for our babies. Thank you to everyone that has given back this Mandela Month.

“The organisation will be running the 67 squares initiative on their website for the entirety of Mandela Month and community members who are interested in donating can visit www.botshabelo.co.za
