ICYMI: Local residents allowed to adopt pets at Midrand SPCA during Level 3

MIDRAND – The adoption process will be conducted under strict conditions and will take place by appointment only.

Midrand SPCA has announced that from Level 3, they will allow residents living in Midrand to adopt animals from their facility.

If the SPCA remains on Level 4, adoptions will not be allowed.

The adoption process will be conducted under strict conditions and will take place by appointment only.

The SPCA will publish photos of the cats and dogs up for adoption on their Facebook page (Midrand SPCA Adoptions) before 1 June so that residents can choose the animal best suited to them.

General manager at the Midrand SPCA, Pam Pretorius said that those interested in adopting animals will be required to bring along proof of residence and a copy of their ID. If they are renting, they will need a letter from their landlord and if they stay in a complex, they will need a letter from the body corporate giving them permission to keep animals.

“We will do a meet and greet under strict hygiene conditions and property inspections will also be conducted,” said Pretorius.

She explained that all those entering the premises of the SPCA will have their temperature checked and will need to wear masks at all times. Only a limited number of people from each family will be allowed into the SPCA at any given time.

Pretorius said that they do not make a profit out of adoptions, so this would not aid in eliminating their tricky financial situation as a result of the pandemic.

“We will be happy to see the animals going to new homes and getting them out of the kennels again,” said Pretorius.

Those who are interested in adopting a cat or dog should call 011 265 9935 to arrange an appointment.
