Tshuma Stingers take a break due to coronavirus

MIDRAND – Midrand rugby giant's head coach said they would be stopping games and training in support of the president's advice to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Tshuma Stingers Rugby Club supports the call to stop all games scheduled by South African Rugby Union and Golden Lions Rugby Union.

The club’s founder and head coach, Ndumiso Tshuma said they would suspend all games until 14 April in an effort to help with the government’s campaign to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

“This is a different kind of fight and requires everyone to join in,” he said.

The team was due for a tour to Lesotho soon. “As a result of the South African state of national disaster as well as the ban on international travel by the Lesotho government, between ourselves and our hosts, the National University of Lesotho, we have agreed on pushing the international friendly dates to later in the year with the hope and anticipation that the situation around Covid-19 will improve and the national suspension will not go beyond April.

“We have asked our members, particularly playing members, to use this self-isolation period to maintain and improve fitness levels. It comes naturally because when we go off-season our members are always cautious of the need to maintain fitness levels.

“We are, through our social media platforms, keeping in touch with our members and sharing all the vital information as we continue in this Covid-19 battle.”

Tshuma urged the club’s fans to exercise great care and follow the advice of government, Department of Health and other advisory bodies to beat Covid-19.

“For now let us pull together and help stop the spread of the pandemic.”
