Midrand CPF aims to deal with crime digitally

MIDRAND – Marvin Maphiri, Sector 3 Crime Forum and Community Policing Forum chairperson says they are working on a camera project and would love the community to be involved.

Marvin Maphiri, chairperson for the Sector 3 Crime Forum and Crime Policing Forum urges community members to contribute to making the sector safe and smart.

Maphiri said they are embarking on a camera project and would love for community members to assist in making the project a success. “We want to implement a camera project to help us fight crime in Sector 3, the reason being there are criminal activities happening in our sector, mainly property-related crimes, car hijackings, car-jammings, and stock theft from businesses and plots.

“Because these crimes occur in different suburbs within the sector, the Sector 3 CPF with the help of the community, after we conducted a few consultative meetings, came to a conclusion that we should explore the installation of smart cameras.”

Maphiri explained that the cameras are smart cameras which have advanced security which will help identify criminal activities in an extraordinary way.

He added that their phase one plan will be installing the cameras at the sector’s main entrance and exit points. “We are also busy engaging stakeholders to partner with us. We want community members to support this project by contributing R100 monthly, R1 200 a year minimum.”

This can include body corporates, companies, and homeowners associations, as well as estate agencies.

Maphiri added that not only would such a project make the city safe but could also increase the value of houses. “For more information on this subject and other crime-related subjects, community members are urged to attend the next Sector 3 public meeting on 2 March at the Midrand Police Station at 7pm.

“Suburbs under Sector 3 are, Noordwyk, Midridge Park – Erand Park, Country View, Blue Hills and Crowthorne. We know this will not be an easy journey or project but we encourage all community members to let us try and work together to embrace change.”
