New residents association for Blue Hills community

BLUE HILLS – The Blue Hills United community is striving to be a model suburb.

The Blue Hill United community strives to be an incredible suburb in Midrand.

The community was established approximately two years ago as a grouping of stand-alone houses by bringing to the Blue Hills extensions 15 and 32 to create a united community. Chairperson for the Blue Hills United community Calvin Nkosi said that they are currently in the process of creating a formal residents and ratepayers association but have made leaps and bounds in terms of development in the area.

He added that one of their primary goals is to develop and unite into a gated community moving forward. Nkosi said, “One of our biggest achievements is the establishment of a leadership structure within the community which allows for a great deal of communication and spirit of ubuntu among all the residents who would like to formalise our community.”

The community has also successfully been able to plant 100 trees with the assistance of Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo and Hyder Properties for arbour week last year. “It was a great community-building project which assisted in us purifying the air in our community as well as helping the value of our properties.”

Nkosi said that one of the primary challenges their community face is security and the high levels of crime in the area. He said the community wishes to have singular security provided to their area but a few residents currently have contracts with their own security which conflicts with their project.

“With all these, the community still remains positive with our investments. And we want to contribute to the greater Midrand and the vision the City of Johannesburg has by becoming a model community. We’ve created the proper channels of cooperation between ourselves and the local officials.”

Ward 112 councillor Lerato Mphefo added, “I really encourage the community building among these residents. It’s always amazing to work together and find similarities between each other. It really does assist in community organisation.”
