A charity organisation which teaches generosity

MAYIBUYE – Midrand-based charity organisation, ZachMap's Charity Funding is appealing to residents to help them make their Easter donations event a success.

A Midrand-based non-profit project wants to encourage community members to give back.

Based in Mayibuye, ZachMap’s Charity Funding was started by eight members from Midrand who noticed that there was a need for people to donate and give more.

Kgothatso Mello, spokesperson for the project said they realised that many orphanages were struggling despite being provided for by the government.

“We therefore then started looking inside our community. While observing, we also spotted a number of crèches with learners who are in dire need of help as some of the learners attending come from less-fortunate backgrounds,” explained Mello.

The project works to bridge the gap by encouraging people to give and identifying places in need. “We decided that with the Easter holidays [coming up], we should target one centre to collect items and donate to as well as spend Easter Day at, to which we identified Phomolong Child Care Centre based in Tembisa.

“We also urge people to donate whatever it is they can, be it clothes, shoes, food items and toiletries while also keeping in mind that the organisation houses infants five to six months old. “People have so much stuff they don’t use, you’d find that a person has so many clothes that they no longer wear which they will either burn or throw away whilst there are people who can make use of them.”

Mello said they would also love to have a sponsor to assist them in making their Easter event a success.

“We also need people in Midrand to support this project, I appeal to each and every resident to help us make a child’s day a memorable one.

“Please help us to collect. Even if you do know someone who has what we need, just approach and ask them to give to our initiative so our event can be successful, and if donors would love to come share the day with us and the kids, they can do so because our kids’ futures are in our hands.”

Mello concluded, “Regarding the donor visits, more info will be shared on our social media pages.”
