Midrand police officers meet with body corporate members from various complexes to discuss safety

MIDRAND – The Midrand police met with members from complexes to discuss issues of crime in the area.


Officers from the Midrand Police Station met with stakeholders and body corporate members from various complexes around Midrand to discuss security in the area.

The meeting was led by Lieutenant Colonel Mzwanele Gqoba from the station. “The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the increase of crime in complexes around the area. Complexes are usually expected to be safer than other places so we want to discuss what the issues are,” he said

Gqoba said that the meeting would act as a report back of crime that occurred from 4 December to 13 January and the nature of the crimes. The police brought local security and members of various body corporates together to discuss their issues pertaining to crime and to strengthen their relationships to tackle the issues.

The most reported crime over the period was housebreaking with four incidents along with common assault with four incidents. There were three cases of fraud reported in the area and two cases of robbery. Lieutenant Colonel Gqoba added that there was one case of sexual assault and one case of attempted murder in the area.

The suburbs which were most affected included Halfway Gardens, Halfway House, Noordwyk, Vorna Valley and Waterfall City. The majority of the crimes occurred on Fridays, Sundays and Mondays.

The meeting also saw the introduction of the sector managers from the police side.

The sector managers are:

• Constable Richard Mapara for Sector 1 who can be contacted on 071 675 6119.

• The Sector 2 manager is Sergeant Benji Nkatingi who can be contacted on 071 675 6110.

• The manager of Sector 3 is Constable Ngwako Matlhatlha who can be contacted on 071 675 6111.

• The Sector 4 manager is Constable Samuel Matimba who can be contacted on 071 675 6112.

• The Sector 5 manager is Constable Partney Shaai who can be contacted on 071 675 6113.

The next meeting will be held on 19 February at 12pm.
