Midrand SPCA thankful for help

GLEN AUSTIN – The Midrand SPCA share their year-end messages and wishes.

The Midrand SPCA general manager Pam Pretorius shared a year-end message from the organisation.

Pretorius said, “It has been really hard, rough and tough year. With our eight robberies, it has been traumatic and our cruelty complaints have increased.”

Though the year has been tough, Pretorius said that the amount of public support has grown. “I thank the community from the bottom of my heart [for their support]. We’ve had numerous successes this year. We’ve installed a whole new borehole system and begun kennel renovations. The public also assisted following our last robbery helping replace a lot of what we lost.

“We’d like to thank the community for keeping us in supply of animal food, blankets and cleaning supplies.”

The Midrand SPCA has a number of plans and hopes for the new year. “Our new year plans include putting up a safe and secure perimeter fencing up and upgrade our security. We need to develop greater storage and housing for the staff in the new year. “We desperately want to build more kennels so we can house more animals and fix our vehicles. And obviously, raise funds to keep the SPCA going.”

Pretorius thanked the hard-working staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the year. “I have to be one of the proudest managers in the SPCA. I have such a dedicated team who have stuck with me 24/7. The Midrand SPCA has become an amazing organisation and without my staff it would not have been possible.”

Ahead of the festive season, Pretorius said that they hope the community could donate food, paint, cleaning goods, blankets and flytraps among other things. She added that anyone that can assist with giving the dedicated staff at the organisation a special Christmas party it would be also appreciated.
