Midrand police warn motorists of theft

MIDRAND – Constable Eliot Mabulane urges community members to be alert when they leave their cars to go shopping.

Midrand Police Station has urged community members to be careful of where they leave their valuables items when going shopping.

Spokesperson for the station, Constable Eliot Mabulane said there have been many reports of theft out of motor vehicles, therefore members of the community should practise safety and not leave their bags, laptops or phones exposed when they leave them in their cars at the parking lots.

“You find that most victims believe that cameras are going to help them, which is false, sometimes when we receive surveillance footage it does not show the whole parking lot, therefore, we cannot see the perpetrators.”

Mabulane added that most of the cases reported involved theft of cellular phones, laptops and bags in cars and as well as cell phones in bathrooms.

“People forget to close their windows, which raises the steaks for a robbery to occur.”

Mabulane concluded, “Therefore, we also urge that motorists check that their windows are properly closed and that their doors are properly closed so that nothing goes missing.”
