Vengeful ex gets caught

IVORY PARK – Man sentenced to 10 behind bars for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.

A man from Ivory Park has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court for attempted murder.

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane said that Lucky Cossam Dumani (35), visited his ex-girlfriend with the intention of borrowing money from her. “It turns out the visit was laced with ulterior motives. Dumani and his then-girlfriend at the time, had an argument. Dumani then decided to leave the girlfriend’s house.

“Later on, Dumani came back carrying a schoolbag with an axe inside. He assaulted the victim physically then took out his axe and started hitting her on the head three times.”

Matimulane added that Dumani was arrested late January this year. He was denied bail because he was in the country illegally.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo added that there are too many domestic violence-related crimes in South Africa. “We believe that this arrest will send a clear message to Dumani and his ilk, that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. Our officers are prepared to go all out to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.”

Ngcobo also commanded the investigating officer involved in the case as he has only been in the investigating field for a year. “With such dedicated young and committed colleagues, the future of detection looks bright,” he concluded.
