Car showcase revs it up

CHARTWELL – Car lovers united to enjoy the beauty and elegance of classic cars during this year's Concours South Africa event at Steyn City.

Car lovers revved it up between 30 August and 1 September at Steyn City!

The fourth Concours South Africa event, Concours D’Elegance, brought the finest sports, luxury and classic cars together for members of the public to enjoy in a special showcase in Parkland Residence of the Steyn City development.

Rupert Lancaster stands in front of an Oldsmobile car that was available to the public in 1902. “It’s history. It has no boot and no nothing!” he told the Midrand Reporter. “Riding it would have been terrifying as it only has two gears – slow and fast – and terrible brakes. What an experience!” Photo: Robyn Kirk

The event was a chance for motorheads to enjoy scrumptious food, refreshing drinks, good company and see some of the most beautiful motor vehicles in the country before a winner was chosen by the judges.

This year’s winner was a Ferrari Dino 246 GT, second place was awarded to a red BMW 325iS while a 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint came in third.

Sisters Vuyo and Keshia Magomo took some time to reminisce when they spotted a BMW 325iS, the same make as their uncle used to have. “I remember him driving around in it,” Keshia told the Fourways Review. “He passed away very young.” Photo: Robyn Kirk
Siblings Carl, Mbali and Owen Nxumalo smile in the hospitality tent. Carl loved looking at the cars, Mbali enjoyed the food on offer and Owen fell in love with a 300 SL Mercedes that he found at the show. Photo: Robyn Kirk
