Fraud suspect is arrested

MIDRAND – A 27-year-old female arrested after allegedly committing medical aid fraud at a medical facility in Midrand.

A woman was arrested on 15 August after allegedly committing medical aid fraud at a medical facility so that she may be admitted.

According to Rabie Ridge Police Station spokesperson, Constable Jacob Nhlongo, the 27-year-old female visited the facility on 13 August and was admitted. “While admitted in the hospital, the hospital was contacted by a medical aid service provider on 15 August, claiming that their customer never visited the hospital nor were they admitted at a hospital. Therefore they cannot be held liable for any payments due.”

Nhlongo said the facility then followed up and found the owner knew nothing about what happened and was surprised by the notifications she received on her cell phone saying she visited the hospital when in actual fact, she never did.

“It was later found the suspect was the sister to the real owner of the medical aid plan. The female suspect was arrested without any injuries and is currently detained at Rabie Ridge SAPS for fraud.

“The suspect will appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon.”
