Joburg MMC for health welcomes new ambulances

JOHANNESBURG – MMC for health believes the new ambulances will reduce unnecessary road fatalities.

Johannesburg MMC for Health and Social development  Mpho Phalatse has welcomed the handing over of 42 new ambulances to all the fire stations in Joburg.

All 30 stations will each receive at least one ambulance and some will receive two, based on the call volume within that region. The City said the new ambulances would assist to respond effectively in cases of emergency. “It can be frustrating when we do not have access to ambulances when there are delays because of a lack of capacity within the EMS,” said Phalatse.

“This for us says we will be able to see improved health outcomes and we will be able to avoid unnecessary road fatalities within our country.”

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba said some of the ambulances would serve some of the poorest communities who experienced some of the highest call volumes.

“The 42 ambulances will replace the broken down and ageing fleet and bring the EMS fleet to 101 ambulances servicing Joburg residents,” he added.

The mayor also called on Joburg residents to take pride in the new ambulances and ensure paramedics were protected while they responded to emergencies.
