Midrand learners bring their A game

MIDRAND – This year Midrand Primary School hosted six schools for their Annual Winter Sports Festival.

 


The Midrand Primary School held their annual Winter Sports Festival which consisted of netball, chess and soccer games with six schools from Midrand and surrounds competing to take home this year’s big titles for their trophy cabinets.

Schools that were in attendance for this year’s competition were Sefikeng Primary, Olifantsfontein Primary, The Valley School, PLG (Carlswald and Raslouw), Glen Austin Primary and Yeoville Boys’.

Speaking on behalf of the school’s sports committee, the head of sports Fisokhule Sikhosana, said that they are trying to build a strong vibrant sporting theme in and around Midrand.

“Our biggest aim for the Winter Sports Festival is to showcase Midrand Primary School’s ability to host tournaments and to show parents the school offers good education as well as good sports.

“We are an old school – 25 years old – but we still want people to associate Midrand with the school.”

He added, “We also want a lively relationship with the schools around us so we all can benefit by closing the gap between model C schools and our school and to let our school dominate in the sports arena.”

The results of the Winter Sports Festival were as follows:

Netball:

• U11: Olifantsfontein Primary School 1st, Sefikeng Primary 2nd, and Midrand Primary 3rd

• U13: Olifantsfontein Primary School 1st, Midrand Primary School (A) 2nd and Midrand Primary School (B) 3rd.

Football:

• U11: Olifansfontein Primary School 1st, Midrand Primary School 2nd and Sefikeng Primary School 3rd

• U13: Olifansfontein Primary School 1st, Midrand Primary School 2nd and Sefikeng Primary School 3rd.

Chess:

• U9: Midrand Primary School 1st, PLG Carlswald 2nd, and The Valley School 3rd

• U11: Midrand Primary School 1st, The Valley School 2nd, and Sefikeng

Primary School 3rd

• U13: PLG Raslouw 1st, Midrand Primary School 2nd, and Sefikeng Primary School 3rd.
