Golf day aims to raise funds for meals

WOODMEAD – The Makeover Department will help provide essential makeovers to schools and kitchens through the funds raised at the golf day.

Meals on Wheels, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing various essential services to the disadvantaged communities, will be hosting a fundraising golf day in Woodmead.

The non-profit organisation has been in operation for more than five decades and more than 13 million meals are served and delivered to the poor and needy annually. This year’s charity golf day hopes to raise funds for various makeover projects.

Meals on Wheels was started by Dr. Denis Baird who saw a serious need among the elderly community in East London and began a fund-raising project to help deliver meals to the elderly during the week. Since then the organisation has extended far beyond delivering meals and now help deliver donations, provide caregiver services and create eco gardens among others.

The Meals on Wheels Makeover Department was established in response to a growing need in communities that extended beyond meals. The non-profit organisation created the department which invites corporates to get involved in fundraising opportunities. Some of the ways that corporates can get involved include dry food drives, community gardening projects and stationery drives among others.

The makeover service will assist the Luvuyo Primary School in Soweto. Some of the makeover services include providing mobile classrooms, helping with kitchen makeovers and providing additional cooking equipment as well as upgrading classrooms to include learner furniture, computer labs and toilets.

The golf day will be hosted on 31 May at the Country Club Johannesburg in Woodmead.

There are a wide range of sponsorship opportunities available that will help raise funds for the much-needed projects. Some of the sponsorship packages include the Platinum Package, which includes clubhouse and prize-giving venue branding as well as an opportunity to speak at the prize-giving. Others can also sponsor the halfway house, driving range or watering holes.
