#IMadeMyMark: Councillor Hicklin weighs in

MIDRAND – Ward 112 councillor Madeleine Hicklin believes every South African must vote.

As part of the #IMadeMyMark initiative, the Midrand Reporter sat down with Ward 112 councillor Madeleine Hicklin to catch up on the elections in her ward and what she hopes to see.

Hicklin is a fervent believer in the importance of voting. She said, “One of the questions that were sent to me by another councillor for my opinion was, ‘Why should residents vote?’ For me, the answer is that we shouldn’t ask why they should vote, but everyone should vote.

“The reason is, if you want to be an active citizen who has a say in the environment you live in, the only way you can make your voice heard and heard definitively, is to put a cross next to a party name on election day.”

She added, “If you are happy with the status quo, then don’t vote. But I don’t think anyone is happy with the current state.”

In terms of the outcomes of the upcoming election, she said, “My hopes and what I think the outcomes are going to be will be very different. I think that people are tired of the status quo. And they will be voting for change. ”
