Botshabelo second-hand store hosts its grand reopening

MIDRAND – The Botshabelo second-hand store held its grand reopening with some major improvements.

The Botshabelo second-hand store held its grand reopening on 26 April after renovations to double it in size.

The second-hand store forms part of the Botshabelo charity, which was founded in 2000 with the primary goal of taking care of children in the Midrand area.

The charity runs three programmes – the babies’ home that looks after abandoned babies and orphans in the area, a preschool that gives children from disadvantage families education and a teacher-training programme which trains teachers who assist in preschools around Johannesburg.

Fundraiser at the charity Makopano Mutloatse said, “The store opened in 2015. We used to pull about 10 bins a day and we used to open in the afternoons for two hours a day selling things. And there was a lot of interest.”

She added that soon it started thriving with the charity given the option to build their own building to sell from.

The new addition saw the store double in size from approximately 50m² to over 100m² with the expected addition of a toilet.

The fundraising process of the second store stemmed from the charity saving their profits over the last four years of operation. Mutloatse added that the growth of the building is amazing as it is one step closer to sustainability.

Store manager Mercy Mokoena said, “The opening of the new store is so amazing, and it will help us and the community.”
