Midrand Primary School takes the trophy

MIDRAND – Midrand Primary School Speech and Drama Club learners performed at a drama festival and took a trophy home.

Midrand Primary School Speech and Drama Club learners performed at Drama College SA Festival from 17 March to 10 April at Auckland Park Preparatory and Fairways Primary School.

The school’s speech and drama club performed a group verse speaking, monologues, speech choir, and a short act play.

The item that the school club stood out for since they have entered the festival was the group choral verse titled Fatherless Children which is an original piece written by the drama teacher, Brian Jokozela with the learners. The verse seeks to speak out for every decent and responsible African man who makes every effort to do good for their families and societies, however, their efforts are taken for granted by their loved ones.

The group choral verse took the trophy for the best South African Work at the festival, keeping the trophy home since the school won it the previous year with their choral verse titled Come with us.

Learners Pfunzo Maiwashe, Lwandle Ngcobo, Zoe Sarah Brand, Luniko Faye, Kuhlekonke Nzimande, Mannedi Motshabi, Inathi Madikana and Qalo Mihlali Likhesa performed this year’s drama, while Ndivho Hlungwani, Onam Sithole, Damela Mojapelo, Leagilwe Mabala, Ngwanatheko Nkopodi, Nsika Goniwe and Tano Qiqwa and Tafika Chandiyamba received Prestige Certificates for speech choir, mini play act and monologue.

Learner’s performances were outstanding and they all rewarded with Prestige Certificates. The school reported that the mentioned items will again be performed at other schools’ eisteddfods in the country as well as during the school’s own internal (Midrand Lebone Schools Play Festival) which will be the fifth installation of the current year in October.

Other schools who would like to join can request registration forms and syllabus from brian@midrandprimary.co.za.

The group would like to acknowledge the parents for their constant support and the school principal, Mr Kwena Kgaabi for creating a platform for the learners to showcase their talents.
