Midrand police gather for special mass prayer

HALFWAY GARDENS – The Midrand Police hosted a special mass prayer to eradicate crime.

The Midrand police gathered for a special mass prayer for the eradication of crime through divine intervention.

The police alongside other entities including the fire department gathered with the local community at the Calvary Methodist Church to pray against the rising crime in their area.

The programme saw a vibrant group of residents and law enforcement get together for an extended service of prayer.

Station Commander of the Midrand Police Station Brigadier David Tsotsotso said, “Day-to-day the police officers are given different challenges when it comes to attending to complaints and crimes. You have to debrief these officers.

“The programme of divine intervention is important in lifting their spirits and giving them support emotionally, spiritually and morally. The importance of this is also to give the police the opportunity to come together with other law enforcement and gain support.”

Tsotsotso said that the officers are given a healing outlet through the service which assists in them challenging the growing crime rate in the area. “When we uplift our spirits as law enforcement it will make our officers ready to take on the rising crime.”

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe and Sergeant Matome Tlamela.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe, who was also in attendance, said, “The crime is growing in the area, and various entities are not working together. And I think the station is quite worried about that.

“I think it’s going to be a rough month ahead and I think this uplifting programme is important for our officers on the ground who risk their lives.”

The service saw the police and residents praying against various issues including gender-based violence and gangsterism.
