Summerhill Grade 1s and matric team up

MIDRAND – The Summerhill School gave their Grade 1s and matric some time to spend together at their annual cupcake decorating day.

The Grade 1 and matric learners at Summerhill Preparatory and College teamed up for the school’s annual cupcake decorating day.

Spokesperson for the school Teressa Oates said, “This event is an opportunity for the [learners] who are in their final year of school, to interact with the [learners] in their first year of school and to remember where they started out and how far they had come.”

An excited group of Grade 1s socialised with the Grade 12s who spoke about their school experiences and how they were finishing school.

Oates added, “The Grade 12s were a little apprehensive at first, but once they got into Forest Hall and started helping the juniors with decorating their cupcakes, they seemed to warm up to the idea and they were having more fun than the Grade 1s.”

At the end of the event, the matrics handed gifts to the Grade 1s in the form of Easter eggs and bookmarks.

“All in all, it was a lovely event filled with licking icing off of fingers and spoons, icing smeared all over faces and happy, laughing Grade 1s and Grade 12s. “We would like to thank the Grade 12s for getting involved and being very hands-on with the Grade 1 students.”

Oates concluded, “Fun was had by everyone.”
